The main focus for me in these drawings is free-form ideation, often provoked by an altered psychological state. I allow whatever symbols or images float into my conscious, whatever colors, whatever marks, and words as well, even if they’re completely nonsensical, the response it evokes within me remains true. My work aims to activate and bring to the conscious surface the internal imageries and evocations of the deeper psyche, and these illustrations act as an exploration and uncovering of this. The illustrations with psychedelic, bizarre creatures and settings are what I like to call, “Heeblesnatches”, a nonsensical term brought about and revealed to me in a state of trance. I find that if I allow myself to be controlled by intuition, not overthinking or over-rationalizing each stroke, then the inner narrative of the Self lays itself out organically. It is this experience that astounds me, and that I aim to develop as I progress as an artist. I find that this process articulates the struggle between the Self and ego, and as such, the inner mythology, communicated through archetypes, symbols, and associations/juxtapositions.
